We offer a variety of fitness classes, aquatic group fitness classes and small group training across our Active Merri-bek centres. From high intensity workouts to more relaxed water exercise – our qualified staff are on hand to help you find a class that will help you achieve your goals. Group fitness classes
A low impact class which incorporates weight resistance training, improving cardiovascular fitness, bone density, muscle strength and muscle tone.
Level 2 - *Please note: A workout program is required to participate. An all-inclusive gym-based class for people who have completed a program with a Health Club instructor. The trainer is there to assist you throughout the gym with your program. It's aimed at people who may have reduced physical capabilities, joint challenges, lack of mobility, or other physical issues. It's also great for those recovering from illness or accidents.
Level 3 (standing) - A low-impact class that offers a variety of exercises designed and conducted in a controlled environment under the management of a highly skilled trainer, the class focuses on exercises to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activities for daily living. It is a great class for seniors and for people who have a chronic illness.
Level 5 (advanced) - A progression from the much loved Active Living, this is an intermediate – advanced class for over 50s who would like to increase their strength gains and take on new challenges. Focusing on lifting techniques, hypertrophy, mobility and cardio, this class is for those who have experience with resistance training.
Level 4 (moving) - A low impact class to music designed to increase muscular endurance, strength, flexibility and fitness. Aimed at people over 50 years of age, but all welcome.
These small group sessions utilise our functional training and outdoor areas, where you will get to learn new exercises and use state-of-the-art equipment under guidance from our qualified Adrenaline coaches demonstrating and coaching correct technique. The programs available are Adrenaline HIT, Adrenaline Strength and Adrenaline X.
Combining ballet-inspired moves with elements of Pilates, dance, yoga and strength training. Our Barre classes incorporate a ballet barre and use classic dance moves such as plies, alongside static stretches. Barre focuses on high reps of small range movements and will help you build and strengthen your muscles, improve your core strength and posture.
A Les Mills pre choreographed class that combines Yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates techniques to build flexibility and strength, leaving you feeling centred and calm. Controlled breathing, concentration and a carefully structured series of stretches, moves and poses to music to create a holistic workout that brings the body into a state of harmony and balance.
A Les Mills pre-choreographed class with an empowering and fiercely energetic music cardio workout inspired by martial arts. Strike, punch and kick your way through calories to superior cardio fitness with a powerful role model instructor as your guide.
A Les Mills pre-choreographed class – the original barbell class that strengthens your entire body. This workout challenges all your major muscle groups by using the best weight exercises with great music and awesome instructors inspiring you to get the best results and fast.
The energising step workout that makes you feel liberated and alive. Using a height adjustable step and simple movements on, over and around it, you'll push fat-burning systems into high gear.
A form of body conditioning using endurance and resistance training. It targets strength building and muscular endurance. The core objective of circuit training is to increase muscle strength, endurance, flexibility and coordination. As the intensity of the workout is based on the participant, it can accommodate the beginner to the advanced and burn a high amount of calories accordingly
A total body workout combining free weights and fitball to enhance deep core control and muscle strength. Targeting not only the core but isolating muscle groups throughout the class. A great workout
Central to the Pilates philosophy is the belief in the interconnectedness of the mind and body. This mind-body connection is a fundamental aspect of Pilates and will help you discover your inner strength. Sometimes it can be done slowly, sometimes a little more dynamic, sometimes it’s just you and sometimes with equipment. Learn about your body awareness and control using your core in a wide range of exercises suitable for all levels of fitness.
Get active with your kids as part of family Zumba. A high energy aerobic class designed to get both the grown ups and the kids moving. Classes are suitable for adults of any age, and children aged between four and 12 years.
A dynamic workout that hones in on your abs, glutes, back and obliques. This is the ultimate way to get a tight and toned core.
Pilates will assist in strengthening your core and improving your flexibility, by focusing exercises on correct body alignment, breathing, lengthening and strengthening your muscles. Due to the nature of this class and the focus on core strength this class is not suitable for pregnant women.
Queer friendly fitness classes provide a safe, welcoming, space to exercise that is free of expectations, enabling you to relax and have fun. Brunswick Baths is a trans and queer friendly gym and our goal is to make fitness more accessible for the LGBTQ+ community. Come along to improve your fitness or simply connect with community. A unique combination of gentle and easy to follow movements, stretches, mindfullness, breath and relaxation. It improves the functioning of virtually all of the systems of the body.
A class which uses the ViPR training tool to bridge the gap between movement and strength. The ViPR tool combines a traditional resistance workout together with the physical agility needed for an optimal sports or fitness performance, easily making the ViPR the most innovative fitness breakthrough in years.
Yoga is a flexibility and strength building class that focuses on breathing techniques, physical flowing movement, postures and meditation exercises intended to integrate body, mind, and spirit. You'll leave the class feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and centred. Regular yoga practice is said to increase overall physical and mental health.
Zumba classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats. It's a combination of fitness and dance moves on swinging Latin music. It's easy to do, fun, and before you know it, you’re getting fit and your energy levels are soaring.
Water workout classes
A low impact water exercise class designed to increase mobility and improve cardiovascular fitness with minimal stress on the joints. Specially designed for people over 50 years of age, but all welcome.
Incorporating deep and shallow water running with intense interval work. A great cross training class.
- To ensure the safety of our Active Youth participants, any person between the ages of 12 to 17 years old must complete a planning session with a Health Club instructor prior to accessing the facility and group fitness classes. Once completed, Active Youth participants can access a range of group fitness classes on the timetable excluding; Adrenaline HIT, Body Pump, Boxing and Circuit classes (16+ year old participants can access the full group fitness timetable).
- Bring a towel and drink bottle.
- Wear appropriate gym attire / swimming costume and goggles that you can move freely in.
- Arrive at the scheduled class time. Arrivals later than five minutes will not be permitted to enter the class.
- Class sizes are limited, so arrive early to avoid disappointment.
- We recommend you check with your doctor before starting any group fitness classes.
- Please inform your instructor prior to the class beginning if you are pregnant, have any injuries or medical conditions.
